Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a dedicated Swim Lesson Instructor to lead lessons, build strong relationships with students and parents, and promote YMCA programs. You will follow approved lesson plans, maintain records, and participate in trainings and safety procedures.

Requirements include current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification (or crossover from Red Cross WSI within 180 days), BLS/First Aid/Oxygen Admin certifications, and being at least 16 years old.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification; if Red Cross WSI, crossover within 180 days.
• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications (or equivalent).
• Demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Minimum age of 16 years.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines using prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourage volunteer involvement.
• Communicates program schedules and refers participants to other YMCA programs as needed.
• Completes staff orientation and required trainings (bloodborne pathogens, child abuse prevention).
• Maintains attendance and progress records; attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Follows YMCA policies, safety procedures, and completes incident reports as necessary.
• Organizes class equipment and reports damaged items; adheres to COVID-19 prevention measures.
• Supports supervisor with additional projects and assignments.
