Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a qualified Swim Lesson Instructor to provide engaging, safe swimming instruction in a community setting. You will follow approved lesson plans, assess student progress, and foster a welcoming environment for children and families.

The role requires current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, BLS/First Aid/Oxygen Administration certifications, and the ability to demonstrate strong instructional skills. Minimum age is 16.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification.
• ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent).
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills to YMCA standards.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines and lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages involvement.
• Communicates program details and refers to related YMCA offerings as appropriate.
• Completes required staff orientation, including safety and prevention training.
• Maintains attendance and progress records for students.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Adheres to all policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
