Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high schools by reinforcing learning for students with disabilities. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, personal care under supervision, and assisting with daily living skills and classroom activities.

Responsibilities include note-taking, assisting with field trips, and keeping records of student behavior in coordination with teachers.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the ISBE, which may be applied for after completing at least 60 semester hours of college credit or after paraprofessional exam.
• CPR training is required or will be completed as a condition of employment if not already available.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one tutoring to students to reinforce learning concepts.
• Assist in instruction of students with various disabilities in accordance with IEPs.
• Assist in daily living skills and personal hygiene tasks as needed.
• Move and position non-ambulatory students following teacher instructions.
• Record student behavior and maintain basic written reports.
• Accompany students on class trips and assist in classroom activities.
• Provide support during feeding and other activities as required.
