Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high schools with students who have various disabilities.

The role includes one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene assistance when needed, and helping students with daily living skills under supervision. CPR training is desirable and training will be provided if not already completed.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional license from ISBE required or eligible.
• CPR training is highly desirable; training must be completed if not on hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing learning for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring to reinforce concepts.
• Provide personal hygiene assistance for students with severe disabilities.
• Assist with daily living skills and use of tools/equipment.
• Accompany students to swimming pools and medical clinics for assistance.
• Take notes for students who cannot do so.
• Assist in correcting homework and maintaining behavior records.
• Attend class field trips and participate in workshops to update skills.
