Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high schools, reinforcing instructional efforts for students with a range of disabilities under IEP guidance.

Responsibilities include one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene support, aiding daily living skills, assisting with mobility and equipment, and helping maintain student records. CPR training is desirable and licensing requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE; can be obtained after 60 college hours or paraprofessional exam.
• CPR training is required or will be completed as a condition of employment.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling, and basic mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with various disabilities under IEP.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance.
• Assist with daily living skills and use of equipment.
• Accompany students on class trips and to clinics.
• Maintain records of student behavior and notes for students.
• Attend workshops and in-service training to update skills.
