CPS in Chicago seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high schools. The role involves one-on-one tutoring, assisting with daily living skills, and helping students with diverse disabilities according to each IEP.

You may help with feeding, hygiene, and classroom activities under supervision of a licensed teacher. Strong written and verbal communication, CPR training, and a valid paraprofessional license (60 college credits or Work Keys/Parapro) are

Qualifications

• Valid ISBE paraprofessional license (TASN/NCLB) or equivalent.
• Or demonstrate completion of 60 college credits or paraprofessional exam (Work Keys/Parapro).
• Ability to work with students with various disabilities and follow written/oral directions.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing learning for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring to reinforce concepts.
• Assist with daily living skills and hygiene needs as required.
• Assist in positioning, feeding, and mobility for non-ambulatory students.
• Maintain written records of student behavior and progress.
• Accompany students on class trips and field visits.
