Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with diverse disabilities, under the direction of a Special Education teacher. Responsibilities include reinforcing instruction, providing one-on-one tutoring, and assisting with daily living skills.

The role involves assisting with mobility, feeding, behavior notes, and accompanying students to swimming pools and clinics, with emphasis on safety and IEP adherence.

Qualifications

• Certification Requirements. Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Alternative: completion of at least 60 semester hours at an accredited college, or completion of a paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro).
• Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill: Good knowledge of characteristics of students with disabilities and basic academic skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists Special Education teachers in reinforcing instruction for students with various disabilities.
• Provides one-on-one tutoring and personal assistance, including hygiene tasks as required.
• Supports students in daily living skills, mobility, and use of assistive devices; accompanies to field trips, clinics, and swimming sessions.
