Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with disabilities in elementary and high schools under supervision of licensed teachers. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, personal care assistance, record keeping, and aiding in daily living skills.

The position requires a valid paraprofessional license (TASN/NCLB) or 60 college credits with paraprofessional exam; CPR training is highly desirable and may be required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the ISBE, or have 60 college credits with paraprofessional exam.
• CPR training is highly desirable and may be required as a condition of employment.
• Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities, English grammar and basic mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the instruction of students with various disabilities according to each student’s IEP.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring services and personal hygiene support as needed.
• Assist in maintaining records of students’ behavior and progress.
• Accompany students on field trips and to swimming pools/clinics as required.
• Assist teachers in daily living skill instruction and in using adaptive equipment.
