YWCA St. Joseph is seeking a Shelter Advocate to provide trauma-informed services to individuals experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, or homelessness. The role emphasizes woman-defined empowerment, crisis intervention, and coordinated safety planning.

You will complete intake, assist shelter guests, help with group living, and maintain guest rooms and records. The position involves on-site work with rotating on-call duties and a commitment to empowering women and eliminating racism.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of domestic & sexual violence dynamics preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to engage diverse populations.
• Intermediate computer skills required.

Responsabilités

• Answer crisis hotline calls and provide safety planning, crisis intervention, education and information/referral.
• Triage requests for shelter services and complete Lethality Assessment as appropriate.
• Complete intake paperwork and orientation for new shelter guests.
• Provide services and support to shelter guests throughout their stay.
• Maintain the safety and security of guests and shelter facility.
• Document all services provided and enter information into the database within 3 days of direct service.
