Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring a Permanency Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) for its North Bend Child Welfare office. The role focuses on safety, well-being, and permanency for children, coordinating services and supporting families in transitions such as adoption or returning home.

Ideal candidates have a human services education background, strong communication, and trauma-informed practice.

Qualifications

• A valid driver’s license required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field; OR a related bachelor’s degree with qualifying experience/certification.
• Associate degree with related experience or training as an alternative.
• Experience in a helping profession with a trauma-informed approach is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor safety, well-being, and development of children in substitute care; support transitions such as returning home or adoption.
• Facilitate and observe parent–child visits, provide coaching, arrange transportation.
• Collaborate with caregivers, families, schools, and partners to develop and implement case plans for stability and permanency.
• Coordinate services (visitation, medical, mental health, education, placement) to support family progress.
• Prepare thorough case documentation and participate in court and review hearings.
