Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Child Protective Services Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) to join the Newport-based Child Welfare team. This in-person role focuses on safety assessments, service planning, and connections to resources for Oregon’s children and families.

You will respond to referrals, conduct interviews, and prepare court-ready documentation while applying trauma-informed practices and equity considerations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Human Services or related field required or equivalent rule.
• Experience meeting minimum qualifications for child protective work is essential.
• Degree must be completed, not in progress.

Responsibilities

• Respond to referrals and interview children, families, and contacts.
• Observe home environments and conduct safety assessments.
• Develop service plans for children and families.
• Arrange medical evaluations, placements, and connect families with services.
• Create reports, safety plans, and testify in court when needed.
• Maintain clear case notes and communicate with diverse populations.
