Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Permanency Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) to join the Child Welfare team in The Dalles. The role focuses on helping families achieve safety and well-being through comprehensive case management and strong collaboration with tribal and community partners.

English/Spanish bilingual skills are preferred; if you are bilingual, you may receive a 5% bilingual differential pay after testing.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and driving record required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in any field with related experience or certification or certification equivalent to Oregon Caseworker Competency.
• Associate degree with two years of related experience or one year with related training.
• Experience drafting analytical documents and meeting deadlines.
• Knowledge of child development and trauma-informed practices.

Responsibilities

• Support families to achieve goals while ensuring child safety.
• Provide case management with diverse families and tribal partners.
• Engage with children, families, resource parents, and caregivers using trauma-informed and antiracist approaches.
• Develop strategies leveraging family strengths and addressing areas needing improvement.
• Handle documentation, home visits, legal paperwork, court hearings, and safety issues.
• Balance needs of child and family with legal requirements.
• Build rapport and understand family dynamics.
