Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools – Truman Elementary in Vancouver, WA is seeking a Paraeducator for Learning Support 1:1. This 6.5-hour/day, 9-month position is a one-on-one role supporting a student with specialized instructional needs.

Starting immediately, the paraeducator will assist with classroom activities, data collection, and progress monitoring under teacher supervision, while maintaining confidentiality and promoting inclusive learning.

Qualifications

• Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED AND
• Official transcripts verifying an Associate's degree (90 quarter, 60 semester) OR 72 quarter or 48 semester credits from an accredited institution; OR ETS ParaPro Assessment result of 455 or higher
• One year of related experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
• Successful experience as part of an educational team preferred
• Experience which demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Possess excellent problem solving, analytical, and conflict resolution skills and ability to think quickly

Responsibilities

• Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
• Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors expected of our students
• Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
• Support the certificated staff member(s) in developing specific goals for each student
• Support the teacher in planning and evaluating overall learning goals and individual students' progress
• Independently oversee student(s) behavior and assist student(s) during class activities
• Assist with data entry, record keeping, and filing
• Grade/correct papers and homework using a rubric or key
• Oversee students during arrival, dismissal, playground, cafeteria or field trips as directed
• Attend training meetings to broaden expertise in working with students with special needs
• Collect and share progress data
• Use technology to collect IEP data and inform goal-based work
• Lead small groups or individualized instruction in reading, writing, math, and social/behavioral skills
• Support students in general education classrooms and collaborate with teachers on accommodations and modifications
• Communicate with the special education teacher about student behavior and needs
• Implement feedback from staff and behavior support plans for students with behavior needs
• Perform other tasks as assigned by administrator in alignment with job classification
