University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Intensive Care Unit, Days shift. The role supports RNs with basic nursing care and a range of patient comfort and safety tasks in a high-acuity environment.

The position is 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) with weekend coverage and no on-call requirements. Ideal candidates hold a CENA certification or are currently enrolled in a health-science program with nursing fundamentals, and have BLS/CPR certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification, or enrollment in health science program with nursing fundamentals course and/or clinical rotation preferred, or equivalent experience (MA, EMT, etc.).
• Basic understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Patient Confidentiality preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider required.
• Experience in acute or extended care facility preferred.
• Able to complete unit-specific core competencies as defined in orientation checklist.

Responsabilités

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide for patient comfort, including bed making, turning and positioning, ambulation, and transfers.
• Assist with patient hygiene activities.
• Provide care for indwelling catheters, dressings, ileostomy/colostomy care.
• Assist with postmortem care.
• Assist with nutrition, passing trays, feeding, and recording intake.
• Assist with elimination and drainage management as directed by RN.
• Collect and label specimens and perform basic urine tests as needed.
• Measure and record vital signs and body weight.
• Set up and use medical equipment safely (spirometry, oxygen, suction, etc.).
• Follow infection control practices and dispose of linens and waste properly.
• Document care provided as directed by the RN.
• Communicate effectively via Vocera, paging, telephone, and pneumatic tube systems; maintain patient confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support department efficiency.
