Job summary

ECU Health Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant II to perform specific patient care duties under nurse supervision. The NAII may operate in an Observer Role, monitoring assigned patients on a unit for a set time, and will assist with direct patient care under the nurse’s direction.

The position requires active NAI and NAII listings in NC, a HeartSaver or higher certification, and de-escalation training. The role supports unit goals and may involve additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Active NAI listing with NC DHHS is required.
• Active NAII listing with NC Board of Nursing is required.
• Current American Heart Association HeartSaver or higher certification is required.
• De-escalation training; if not current at hire must be completed within 90 days and maintained.
• High School or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates in quality improvement (QI) activities and data collection.
• Attends staff development programs and orientation of new staff and students as delegated by supervising RN.
• Follows hospital and unit policies; maintains licensure requirements.
• Builds interpersonal relations and teamwork; communicates effectively and provides feedback.
• Assists in unit/department/hospital goal setting and cost-effective equipment use.
• Under supervision, provides direct patient care and completes delegated tasks per NC DHHS and NC Board of Nursing.
• May perform EKGs, phlebotomy, venipuncture, admission, transport and discharge assistance.
• Monitors patients for escalating behaviors and communicates with the care team; documents in medical records; reduces hazards.
