Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a hospital coder who performs thorough medical record review to assign ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures and abstracts data for statistical requests. This role supports cash flow by managing the unbilled coding report and staying current with ICD guideline changes.

Required are a High School/GED, 1 year in hospital coding, and CCS or CIC certification. A strong data-entry ability and teamwork are essential to succeed in this position.

Qualifications

• High School / GED or higher education in health information.
• CCS or CIC certification is required or preferred.
• Experience with hospital coding and medical terminology.
• Understanding of ICD coding guidelines and data abstraction.
• Ability to enter data accurately and work within teams.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters data.
• Manages unbilled coding report to support cash flow.
• Keeps up to date with ICD guideline changes via training and clinics.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
