Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an entry-level Instrumentation & Controls Engineer in the Chicago area to contribute to the design of new power plants and upgrades to existing facilities. You will work under senior I&C engineers on project teams, helping develop P&IDs, I/O lists, control panels, and related deliverables.

We provide mentoring, classroom-style sessions, and on-the-job training to grow your engineering knowledge.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with graduation Spring 2028 or Winter 2027.
• Emphasis on control systems preferred.
• Ability to apply I&C engineering principles to project design and problem solving.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; collaborative mindset.
• Experience in a team environment and strong work habits.

Responsibilities

• Assist design of process control systems and procure I&C equipment and installation services.
• Develop I&C design deliverables: P&IDs, I/O lists, control panels, and networks.
• Create location plans, cable schedules, and cause & effect matrices.
• Work under supervision on projects for new power plants and facility upgrades.
• Participate in mentoring and training to grow I&C engineering skills.
