Job summary

HDR is seeking a Structural Engineer to support design, repair, and retrofit of hydropower utility projects in the Southeast. You will coordinate with disciplines, ensure code compliance, and help drive projects from development through construction.

The role offers the chance to work within HDR's nationally recognized Hydropower Practice, collaborate with experienced engineers, and contribute to reliable, resilient power infrastructure across multiple sites, including Alabama.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (PE or equivalent).
• Previous structural engineer experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAP, STAAD, RISA, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar software.
• Experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Active participation in employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Review structural documents for conflicts with disciplines.
• Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures and materials, perform calculations.
• Coordinate the structural design team through development and contract document phases.
• Participate in code compliance reviews with governing agencies.
• Conduct design development and document work sessions at project site with Project Manager.
• Coordinate workload through design and construction document phases to meet schedule.
• Coordinate with affected disciplines and incorporate changes into documents.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Masters degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
