Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to join our multi‑discipline team. You will analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control and water resources projects, lead project teams, prepare proposals, and support budgets and schedules, working on assignments across Environment, Industry, Transportation and Water.

The ideal candidate has a Civil/Structural engineering degree, a PE license, and about 10 years of related experience, with travel up to 20–40%.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
Professional engineer (PE) license.
10 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Travel frequency varies with duties.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

Analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control, hydroelectric, and water resource projects.
Lead project teams of structural engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
Prepare project proposals with scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
Forecast workload and schedules.
Prepare contract documents including drawings, specifications, design documentation and criteria, cost estimates, and bid documents.
Perform engineering services during construction and review shop drawings.
Conduct inspections and structural assessments of existing structures and prepare reports.
Prepare and present technical presentations to project team, clients, and review boards.
Conduct risk analyses for hydraulic structures and lead risk analysis workshops.
Manage tasks on large projects or several medium projects.
Review the work of others to ensure quality against codes and standards.
Monitor projects to control budgets and schedules.
Participate in business development, marketing, and recruiting activities.
Act as a mentor for junior staff.
