Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to join our multi-discipline engineering team. You will analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control and water resources projects, lead engineers across disciplines, and prepare proposals with budgets and schedules.

Role includes travel 20–40% and opportunities to mentor junior staff while delivering world‑class solutions for clients in the Environment, Industry, Transportation, and Water sectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control and water resources projects.
• Lead project teams of structural engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for proposals.
• Forecast workload and schedules for multiple projects.
• Prepare contract documents with drawings, specs, design criteria, and cost estimates.
• Review shop drawings and respond to contractor questions during construction.
• Inspect and assess existing structures and prepare reports.
• Present technical results to project teams, clients, and review boards.
• Identify and analyze risk via potential failure mode analyses and risk workshops.
• Mentor junior staff and support business development and recruitment.
