Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. You will analyze and design hydraulic structures for water resources projects, lead project teams, and prepare proposals and contract documents.

You will contribute to construction support, inspections, and risk analyses while mentoring junior staff. The role may involve partial remote work schedules and travel up to 40% to support diverse projects across the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• PE license and 10 years of related experience required.
• Willingness to travel domestically or internationally as duties demand.
• Experience with hydraulic structures and USACE/USBR/FERC/FEMA standards is essential.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control, hydroelectric, and other water projects.
• Lead project teams and coordinate with multi-disciplinary groups.
• Prepare scopes, budgets, schedules, and project proposals.
• Forecast workload and schedules, monitor budgets and progress.
• Prepare contract documents, drawings, specs, and cost estimates.
• Provide engineering services during construction and review submittals.
• Conduct inspections and prepare structural assessment reports.
• Present technical work to teams, clients, and review boards.
• Conduct risk analyses, identify failure modes, and document findings.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development.
