Job summary

Symmetry is seeking a customer-facing engineer who blends solutions engineering and forward-deployed engineering. You will scope engagements, gather requirements, build proofs-of-concept, and deliver production-ready agents that automate payroll tax workflows for real clients.

You will work closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering to ensure feasible solutions, then embed with clients to implement and run deployments in production environments, measuring success by hours saved and risk

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, AI Engineer, implementation engineer, or solutions architect.
• Proven track record of shipping production systems in ambiguous, client-facing environments, with REST APIs, webhooks, data modeling, and robust failure handling.
• Ability to present to and influence diverse audiences from engineers to executives.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with deep empathy for client outcomes and automation of complex payroll/tax workflows.

Responsibilities

• Scope opportunities early with Sales to define technical feasibility and compliance challenges.
• Gather requirements and define the problem clearly for Sales, Product, and Engineering alignment.
• Build working proofs-of-concept when needed to demonstrate feasibility before full build.
• Translate deployments into a business case justifying subscriptions: hours saved, risk reduced, compliance simplified.
• Embed with clients and write code to run their compliance decisions in production.
• Diagnose data issues, jurisdiction mapping, tax ID reconciliation that block production.
• Maintain alignment between technical teams and business stakeholders as requirements evolve.
• Deliver the build and a runbook so Client Success can operate without handoffs.
• Feed learnings back into product and GTM strategy, addressing infrastructure gaps.
• Create implementation playbooks and deployment patterns for future scale.
