Job summary

Chronicle Heritage is seeking a Senior Archaeologist to serve as Principal Investigator for the Mid-Atlantic region. The position is based in Tarboro, NC with a hybrid remote option.

You will lead technical studies, supervise interdisciplinary teams, ensure quality deliverables, and mentor staff while engaging with clients and stakeholders. Strong CRM knowledge and report-writing experience are essential.

Qualifications

• This role requires an SOI-Qualified advanced degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Experience leading Mid-Atlantic projects (NC/VA preferred) including 4+ years in survey, testing, and data recovery.
• Strong understanding of CRM legal framework with NRHP criteria for the region.
• Proven report writing experience including technical reports and treatment plans.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and preparing deliverables per templates and style guides.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical studies and ensure clients receive high-quality, on-time deliverables.
• Provide technical oversight and interdisciplinary team oversight.
• Provide quality control for all deliverables and compliance with regulations.
• Train and mentor staff and engage in professional development.
• Interface with clients and external stakeholders.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CRM regulations and industry trends.
• Oversee field investigations to assess resources and project sites.
• Direct data collection, analysis, and interpretation; propose recommendations.
