Job summary

Environmental Research Group, LLC (ERG) is seeking a full-time Senior Project Archaeologist to lead CRM projects for federal and state clients across the eastern, midwestern, and southeastern United States. The role blends project management, field direction, report preparation, client coordination, and mentorship from kickoff through final deliverable.

Based in NC/VA or within a half-day drive of Charlotte, with a virtual-work-friendly arrangement when not in the field (about 40% fieldwork).

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
• At least five years CRM experience with field leadership and client communication.
• Experience leading field crews and managing project deliverables.
• Experience with Phase I/II and monitoring during construction.
• Knowledge of Section 106, NEPA, and state guidance for the states worked.

Responsibilities

• Lead archaeological projects from kickoff through final deliverable, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, field execution, documentation, and closeout.
• Direct Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, monitoring, and other field investigations as needed.
• Coordinate mobilizations, safety, daily production, data quality, and client communication.
• Prepare technical reports, regulatory documents, research designs, proposals, and scopes of work.
• Review records, GIS data, analyses, and products for accuracy and compliance.
• Apply 106/NEPA guidance to archaeological planning and recommendations.
