Job summary

Stinson LLP seeks an experienced patent agent to join the patent prosecution group of our Intellectual Property and Technology Division. The role involves drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, providing patentability assessments, and assisting with freedom to operate and due diligence assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or similar with related work experience.
• Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Minimum 5 years in patent preparation & prosecution.
• Experience managing patent prosecution docket and ownership of applications.
• Ability to collaborate with supervising partners, admins, paralegals, and docketing specialists.
• Law firm or in-house IP experience.

Responsibilities

• Draft and globally prosecute patent applications.
• Coordinate and correspond with foreign law firms for filing foreign patents.
• Coordinate with clients for processing and legalization of documents for filing.
• Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing License when needed.
• Prepare and send notices to clients about deadlines.
• Correspond with foreign firms regarding filings, deadlines, and billings.
• Anticipate needs of supervising partner or client for projects.
• Delegate effectively with Paralegals or Legal Admin Assistants.
• Meet billable hour requirement of 1650 per year.
• General and Administrative tasks (5%) and other duties.
