Job summary

Stinson LLP seeks an experienced patent agent to join the Intellectual Property and Technology Division. The role focuses on drafting and prosecuting U.S.

and foreign patent applications, performing patentability analyses, and assisting with freedom-to-operate and due diligence assessments. Ideal candidates have a strong background in Electrical Engineering, exceptional writing and analytical abilities, and at least five years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering field with related work experience
• Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills
• Minimum 5 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience
• Experience managing patent prosecution docket and ownership of patent applications across all prosecution phases
• Ability to collaborate with supervising partners, patent admin staff, and docketing specialists
• Law firm or in-house IP experience only

Responsibilities

• Draft and globally prosecute patent applications
• Coordinate with foreign law firms and associates to file foreign patents
• Communicate with clients for processing and legalization of documents for filing in U.S. and foreign offices
• Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing License where needed
• Prepare and send notices to clients regarding deadlines
• Correspond with foreign firms regarding filings, deadlines, and billings
• Anticipate needs of supervising partners or clients for projects
• Delegate tasks to Paralegals or Legal Administrative Assistants
• Meet annual billable hour target of 1650 hours
• Other general and administrative duties as assigned
• Maintain strong communication skills and attention to detail
• Work well in a fast-paced, professional environment
