Job summary

Stinson LLP is seeking an experienced patent agent to join the patent prosecution group of our Intellectual Property and Technology Division.

The position involves drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, performing patentability assessments, and assisting with freedom-to-operate and due diligence reviews, with a competitive salary, benefits, and bonus structure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering field.
• S. Patent & Trademark Office registration.
• Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Minimum 5 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Experience owning patent prosecution docket and patents through all stages.
• Ability to collaborate with partners, admins, paralegals, and docketing staff.
• Law firm or in-house IP experience.

Responsibilities

• Draft and globally prosecute patent applications.
• Coordinate with foreign law firms to file foreign patents.
• Coordinate with clients for processing and legalization of documents.
• Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing License when needed.
• Maintain client patent portfolios.
• Prepare and send notices regarding deadlines.
• Communicate with foreign firms on filings, deadlines, and billings.
• Anticipate needs of supervising partners or clients for projects.
• Delegate to paralegals or legal admins as appropriate.
• Meet a billable hour target of 1,650 per year.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
