Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a hybrid role in Washington, DC. You will lead the development of 3-D mechanical layouts, piping isometrics, and equipment arrangements using SmartPlant S3D, SPID and SPF data.

You will coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, review vendor drawings, manage design deliverables, resolve clashes, and mentor junior staff in a dynamic nuclear power environment. Strong 3-D modeling and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with SmartPlant S3D modeling software including integration with SPID, SPF and S3D
• Minimum three years of detailed design experience in mechanical plant design drawings (piping, pipe supports, equipment layout)
• Proficiency with 3D plant layout modeling tools
• Experience reviewing project deliverables and drawing requirements
• Experience reviewing vendor drawings and interface points
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams across disciplines

Responsibilities

• Work with multi-disciplined engineering and design teams to develop mechanical general arrangement, piping isometric, pipe supports and equipment layouts in 3-D
• Use SmartPlant S3D and SPF databases to generate deliverables, BOMs and catalogs
• Interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (SPID/SPF/S3D) and ensure designs meet requirements
• Lead mechanical design coordination across detailed design phases
• Resolve clashes in the 3-D model and report status
• Provide guidance to other designers and project team members
• Independently plan and execute mechanical deliverables
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers
