Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Mechanical Designer to contribute to multi-discipline projects in a hybrid office/remote role.

You will develop mechanical general arrangement drawings, piping isometrics, pipe supports, and equipment layouts in 3D using SmartPlant S3D, SPID and SPF, while generating BOMs and catalogs. Collaborating with engineers and designers, you will plan, execute, and mentor junior drafters, ensuring timely, high-quality deliverables.

Qualifications

• Essential: 3+ years of detailed design for mechanical plant drawings (piping, supports, layout).
• Experience with 3D plant layout tools and 3D modeling.
• Ability to review project deliverables and vendor drawings.
• Interface with engineering and design teams from multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical general arrangement, piping isometrics, pipe supports, and equipment layouts in 3D.
• Use SmartPlant S3D and SPF databases to generate deliverables, BOMs, and catalogs.
• Interpret P&ID and align design with engineering requirements.
• Lead mechanical design coordination across phases and resolve clashes in the 3D model.
• Provide guidance to other designers to ensure timely, complete designs.
• Plan and execute mechanical deliverables independently.
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.
