Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks an experienced mechanical designer with a strong background in drafting and 3D plant layout work for our Washington, DC area team. The role emphasizes collaboration across disciplines and leadership in the mechanical design process to deliver detailed layouts and associated deliverables.

The candidate should have extensive experience in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems, and supports, with proficiency in 3D design tools.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• Ten+ years of detailed physical design experience in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems and supports.
• Proficiency with 3D plant layout design software.
• Experience reviewing mechanical equipment outlines and interface points.
• Ability to collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams in power plant design.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical drawings and 3D models for layouts as directed by the Mechanical Project Lead.
• Design mechanical systems and troubleshoot a wide range of issues.
• Use 3D modeling tools to generate mechanical schematics.
• Lead the mechanical design team during detailed design phases of the model.
• Coordinate and guide other designers and project team members for complete, timely designs.
• Plan and execute deliverables such as general arrangements, piping isometrics, piping composites, pipe supports, and equipment locations.
• Possibly conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.
