Sargent & Lundy in Cary, North Carolina, seeks a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV and EHV substations. You will lead an engineering team, develop relay philosophies, and oversee diagrams, calculations, and studies for client reviews.

The role requires 10+ years in protection/control, a PE license, and strong communication. Hybrid work is offered with relocation support based on location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree is required.
• 10+ years experience in protection/ control/ telecommunications for high voltage substations; including design, installation, and coordination.
• PE license is required.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience in relay calculations documentation.
• Familiarity with design techniques and standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Experience with protective relay equipment (SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler).
• MS Office proficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsabilités

• Lead an engineering and design team on substation modifications and upgrades.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and configurations for relay, control, and communications equipment.
• Guide junior and senior engineers in protection and controls design, coordinating detailed design phases.
• Support investigations, troubleshooting, and solving engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams, relaying and metering diagrams.
• Prepare engineering studies for client and peer review.
• Perform independent reviews of work, including calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure timely design.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements and present findings.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and participate in Communities of Practice.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for design reviews and field verification when needed.
