Job summary

GFT seeks a Principal Substation Engineer to lead or support utility and power substation projects across HV ranges. The role emphasizes client engagement, project management, and technical leadership in 34.5kV up to 500kV environments.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate across offices, and contribute to business development while delivering high‑quality technical solutions and proposals. Remote options available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer License.
• 15+ years progressive experience in design, engineering and project management within power and utility industry.
• Interest in or direct experience working in the consulting engineering profession.
• Demonstrated ability with project management software and tools (Microsoft Project or similar) for scope, schedule, and budget management.
• Design experience in high voltage substation, and distribution projects.
• Experience in the creation of quality technical solutions and the design delivery of major power delivery projects.
• Commitment to driving strong business performance, continuous improvement, and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support utility and power substation projects and clients.
• Develop substation layout drawings including plan/elevations, yard layouts, grounding, raceways, and control building layouts.
• Prepare single-line diagrams, auxiliary power systems, DC systems, SCADA/Communications, Relay layouts, and wiring/cable schedules.
• Prepare equipment specifications for substation equipment and construction.
• Manage technical, financial, and scheduling aspects of substation projects.
• May act as project manager, client manager or capture/proposal manager.
• Build and maintain skills/resources to deliver strategic services and projects.
• Collaborate regionally and nationally to increase GFT presence in power delivery.
• Provide QA/QC reviews and mentor staff.
