Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a Lead Decision Intelligence Engineer to own agentic AI across the NBA platform. You will design, build, and govern decision models, workflows, and production AI systems, leading a small team of engineers and collaborating with business, product, and engineering groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of software/AI experience including 2+ years in technical leadership.
• Strong Python engineering for production AI systems.
• Hands-on experience with agentic applications using LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI.
• Experience integrating Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Vertex AI, Anthropic, OpenAI, or comparable enterprise AI platforms.
• Strong understanding of Decision Intelligence concepts: modeling, optimization, automation, objectives, constraints, outcomes.
• Experience implementing LLM patterns including tool calling, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation, memory management, workflow orchestration.
• Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including automated evaluation, human review, performance measurement, experimentation.
• Ability to map business processes into formal decision frameworks and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a small engineering team while remaining hands-on.
• Strong communication skills to explain AI and decision architectures to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and operate microservices delivering action and variant metadata and context-aware policy evaluation.
• Design, deploy, and maintain resilient database schemas supporting action catalogs and versioning.
• Integrate enterprise rules engines for eligibility and policy enforcement.
• Lead AI-assisted and agentic engineering to generate and refactor schemas and logic.
• Develop automated tests for migrations, API contracts, rules behavior, and edge cases.
• Ensure observability with structured logging, metrics, and alerting; support governance and compliance.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards.
