Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for high‑voltage transmission and substation projects, while supporting P&C design.

Responsibilities include fault studies, relay coordination with CAPE/ASPEN, configuring microprocessor relays, managing data in Powerbase, and participating in field testing. Strong communication and 10+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• ABET‑accredited EE degree or equivalent required.
• 10+ years of system protection experience on transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with protection philosophies and relay settings.
• Familiarity with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform fault studies and relay coordination using CAPE/ASPEN.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista).
• Manage relay records and documentation in Powerbase; coordinate with client standards and change management.
• Support field commissioning and protection issue resolution during construction.
