Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role focuses on protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for high‑voltage transmission and substation projects. You will also support P&C design, field commissioning, and investigations to ensure client standards and NERC/IEEE compliance.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and relocation support dependent on location.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
Strong knowledge of protection philosophies and relay logic.
Experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.

Responsibilities

Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
Perform system protection studies including short-circuit analysis and relay coordination.
Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor-based protective relays using vendor software.
Manage relay records and configuration data in Powerbase or similar databases.
Support commissioning, field energization, and fault investigations with documented recommendations.
