Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. This role will lead protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for transmission and substation projects, with emphasis on high‑voltage design.

You will review P&C designs, develop protection settings, coordinate with integration teams, and use CAPE/ASPEN and vendor tools such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista. The position offers relocation assistance and a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET‑accredited) or equivalent.
• 10+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation.
• Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
• Proficient with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.
• Experience with Powerbase or similar databases.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication with utility clients.
• Leadership of project portions and cross‑functional coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses and breakers.
• Review substation protection & control design and coordination.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure relays using vendor software (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista).
• Manage relay records in Powerbase and ensure data integrity.
• Support event analysis, misoperation investigations, and field energization.
• Coordinate with design teams on AC/DC one‑lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.
• Ensure compliance with NERC PRC, IEEE/ANSI standards and client requirements.
