Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead System Protection Engineer for its Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophy development, relay settings, and system studies for transmission and substation projects.

A secondary role includes reviewing P&C designs and supporting field commissioning. The role requires 10+ years in protection engineering, ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering, and strong experience with CAPE/ASPEN and vendor relay software.

Qualifications

ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent).
10+ years in system protection for transmission/substation projects.
Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
Knowledge of protection philosophies for line/transformer/bus protection.
Experience using CAPE/ASPEN or similar protection analysis tools.
Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards.
Strong written and verbal communication; capable of client interaction.

Responsibilities

Develop protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
Perform short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time-current curve development.
Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, etc.).
Manage relay records and configurations in Powerbase; ensure alignment with standards.
Support event analysis and misoperation investigations; recommend adjustments.
Review P&C design documents (one‑lines, wiring diagrams, schematics) with design teams.
Assist with commissioning, field questions, and startup protection issues.
