Job summary

Avista is seeking a Labor Relations professional to support the Director of Labor Relations in directing and overseeing labor programs, policies and procedures. You will help build constructive relationships with unions and employees, interpret collective bargaining agreements, and assist in negotiating resolutions.

Hybrid role in Spokane, WA with on-site expectations and collaboration with outside counsel.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree and five or more years of professional experience with bargaining units.
• Experience directly managing employees and/or managing working teams preferred.
• Professional level human resource certification (e.g. SHRM-CP/PHR or SHRM-SCP/SPHR) or labor relations certification preferred.
• Applies advanced specialized knowledge in single area of expertise, and/or has a broad knowledge of multiple functions and integrates related knowledge and specialties.
• Has a demonstrated competency in building and nurturing relationships and in the application of principles, legislation, regulation, practices, and current trends influencing area(s) of knowledge and expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to produce timely, high-quality work and maintain discretion and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Director of Labor Relations in directing and overseeing the Company’s labor relations programs, policies, and procedures.
• Helps establish and maintain constructive relationships with representative unions and communicates to build partnerships with represented and non-represented employees.
• Assists in interpreting applicable collective bargaining agreements and investigating and negotiating resolutions of arbitration or grievance cases.
• Assists management in labor-related matters, leads contract negotiations, and coordinates with outside counsel on labor issues.
