Job summary

Avista Corporation in Spokane is seeking a Labor Relations professional to support the Director of Labor Relations, directing the company’s labor relations programs and policies. This role builds transparent partnerships with represented and non-represented employees and assists in interpreting agreements.

You will investigate and negotiate arbitration/grievance outcomes, guide management on labor matters, and lead contract negotiations, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree and five or more years of professional experience with bargaining units.
• Experience directly managing employees and/or managing working teams preferred.
• Professional level human resource certification (e.g. SHRM-CP/PHR or SHRM-SCP/SPHR) or labor relations certification preferred.
• Applies advanced specialized knowledge in single area of expertise, and/or has a broad knowledge of multiple functions and integrates related knowledge and specialties.
• Has a demonstrated competency in building and nurturing relationships and in the application of principles, legislation, regulation, practices, and current trends influencing area(s) of knowledge and expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to produce timely, high-quality work and maintain discretion and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Support the Director of Labor Relations in directing and overseeing the Company’s labor relations programs, policies, and procedures.
• Help establish and maintain constructive relationships with representative unions and build partnerships with represented and non-represented employees and agencies.
• Assist in interpreting applicable collective bargaining agreements and in negotiating resolutions of arbitration and/or grievance cases.
• Assist all levels of management in labor-related matters and lead contract negotiations.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on labor issues as appropriate and perform other activities as assigned.
