Job summary

EXP, a leading engineering and design firm, seeks a Junior Project Accountant to join the Hybrid Finance Operations team in Chicago. You will manage project setup, budgeting, invoicing, and reporting while ensuring accuracy and timeliness across projects.

The role requires a BS in Accounting with 2–4 years of experience in an engineering context, strong revenue recognition knowledge, and proficiency in Deltek or equivalent ERP. A collaborative, detail-oriented mindset is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
2–4 years of accounting experience (AP/AR/Billing) with an engineering firm.
Strong understanding of revenue recognition.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Set up/review/activate projects in Deltek and maintain budgets throughout the life of the project.
Close out projects upon completion.
Prepare draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including backup.
Send final invoices to clients and file in-house copies.
Create monthly Project Progress Reports for each PM and hold monthly review meetings.
Investigate project variances and submit reports to management.
Reconcile variances with cash application in collaboration with cash receipts team.
Compile information for internal and external audits, as required.
Obtain required paperwork to set up new vendors.
Review and approve vendor invoices and employee expense reports.
Run requested reports.
Communicate and coordinate with local offices.
