Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Fire Protection Engineer to design and review fire protection systems for complex projects. You will contribute to life safety analyses, coordinate with federal and local standards, and mentor junior staff within a hybrid work environment across multiple offices.

The role requires a PE license, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and about seven years of relevant experience. Travel may be required as part of project duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency varies with duties.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive fire protection designs including layouts, basis-of-design, water supply analyses and detailed plans for sprinklers, suppression systems, pumps and alarms.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects, providing life safety and fire protection analysis and design.
• Review drafts to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and sign off on designs.
• Create fire protection and life safety engineering designs and evaluations as needed to meet client requirements.
• Evaluate systems using HydraCAD, HydraCALC or similar software.
• Review draft designs for NFPA, UFC and local regulations and ensure firm policy adherence.
• Collaborate with sales to prepare proposals and ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
• Meet with clients to review design needs and future requirements.
• Conduct site assessments to ensure designs meet industry standards and local requirements.
• Attend conferences to promote the firm's products and services.
• Provide guidance and training to junior staff; mentor and supervise engineers on projects.
