Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design and review fire protection systems for federal and private sector projects. The role emphasizes life safety, NFPA/UFC compliance, and collaboration with sales and clients to meet design needs.

The successful candidate will lead technical guidance, mentor junior staff, and ensure designs comply with applicable regulations while supporting business development and project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Developing fire protection engineering designs including layouts, design basis, water supply and hydraulic analyses, and detailed plans for sprinkler and suppression systems, pumps and alarms.
• Acting as QFPE for federal projects with life safety, suppression and alarm analysis and design.
• Reviewing designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and signing off on completed designs.
• Creating fire protection and life safety engineering designs and evaluations such as egress analysis, fire separation requirements and hazard analysis.
• Evaluating systems using HydraCAD, HydraCALC or similar software.
• Ensuring adherence to NFPA, UFC, national/state/local regulations and firm policies.
• Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals and reviewing draft proposals for compliance.
• Meeting with clients to review current and future design needs and performing site assessments.
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff.
