Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design comprehensive fire protection systems and act as QFPE on federal projects, aligning with NFPA, UFC, and local regulations. The role involves collaborating with sales and clients to refine design needs and ensure compliance across projects.

The position supports a hybrid work model across multiple US offices with travel of 10% or less. A PE license and 7+ years of experience are preferred, with strong CAD and regulatory knowledge to guide

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• PE license required or on-track for licensure.
• 7 years of related experience or equivalent
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency depends on duties.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection engineering designs including sprinkler and suppression systems, water supply analyses and design documentation.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects; life safety, fire suppression and fire alarm analysis and design.
• Review designs for compliance with NFPA, UFC and local regulations; sign off on completed designs.
• Create fire protection and life safety designs and evaluations (eg. egress analysis, fire separation, hazard analysis).
• Evaluate systems using HydraCAD, HydraCALC or similar software.
• Collaborate with sales to prepare proposals and ensure regulatory adherence.
• Meet with clients to assess current and future design needs; conduct site assessments as needed.
