Job summary

Southern Company is seeking an Enterprise Data Architect to lead the design and governance of our Azure Databricks Lakehouse platform (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog) that underpins CIS data across the enterprise.

You will define data models, replication strategies, security controls, and analytics patterns in partnership with cybersecurity, data science, and business teams to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics platform engineering.
• At least 3 years in a senior architecture or technical leadership role.
• Production Azure Databricks Lakehouse experience with Delta Lake and Unity Catalog.
• Experience designing CDC and replication for batch and near-real-time loads.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture of the Lakehouse, from ingestion through consumption.
• Architect near-real-time and batch CIS data replication; lead decisions on CDC and streaming.
• Guide data engineers on logical/physical models and governance standards.
• Establish data quality, lineage, cataloging, observability, and metadata management.
• Design integration patterns for downstream applications and data products.
• Partner with cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance on access controls and DR.
• Mentor data engineering teams and maintain reference architectures and roadmaps.
• Optimize platform capacity and cost across Databricks and Azure.
