Job summary

Southern Company seeks an Enterprise Data Architect to lead the Customer Data Platform lakehouse strategy on Azure Databricks. You will own architecture governance, data replication, and security across CIS data, partnering with teams across IT and business units.

You will mentor engineers, shape data models, and establish high-availability, cost-conscious patterns for analytics, BI, and regulatory needs while aligning with enterprise roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics platform engineering.
• Minimum 3 years in a senior architecture or technical leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end architecture and strategic direction of the Lakehouse, from ingestion through consumption.
• Architect near-real-time and batch CIS data replication; guide CDC and streaming decisions.
• Mentor data engineers on logical/physical data models and governance standards.
• Establish data quality, lineage, cataloging, observability, and metadata practices using Unity Catalog.
• Design integration patterns for downstream applications and ensure regulatory controls.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance teams on access control and masking.
• Support ML/AI pattern creation within governance and security boundaries.
• Provide governance for partners and lead architecture reviews and roadmaps.
