Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an engineer in Chicago to work on electrical distribution projects, including 4 kV–34 kV systems. You’ll prepare sketches, perform analyses, and help design and document complex distribution tasks in a hybrid office/onsite setting.

The candidate should have an ABET-accredited engineering degree and 2+ years in electric utility distribution, with proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and PoleForeman. Strong communication is essential for cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• Two+ years of utility distribution experience targeted.
• Knowledge of distribution design methods and codes/standards.
• Proficiency with distribution software including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PoleForeman.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork ability.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction sketches and details for overhead/underground networks (4 kV–34 kV).
• Conduct structural analyses, short-circuit and voltage drop calculations.
• Develop bill of materials, cost estimates, and traffic control plans.
• Plan system modifications and design complex distribution tasks.
• Create work packages and as-builts upon project completion.
• Support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
