Job summary

Benesch in Chicago seeks a Director of Knowledge Management to build and lead the firm’s new KM function. You will report to senior leaders, shaping strategy and governance while aligning KM with innovation and client service.

This role requires designing an active KM program that surfaces institutional expertise at the point of need. The Director will drive taxonomy, data governance, and AI-enabled workflows, working across Practice Groups, IT, Risk, and Marketing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a JD strongly preferred and at least eight years of experience in legal knowledge management, practice support, or related function.
• Ability to move KM from repository to AI-enabled, workflow-embedded function with governance.
• Experience translating client requirements into KM priorities and standards; credibility to partner across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead evolution of KM to a workflow-embedded, AI-empowered function.
• Assess KM maturity and develop deliverables with success criteria.
• Prioritize KM roadmap using client-demand signals and align with the firm's innovation portfolio.
• Partner with practice group leaders to identify knowledge gaps and prioritize curation.
• Establish quality gates and a governed-content lifecycle for knowledge assets.
• Work with Data team to define taxonomy standards and improve surface of institutional knowledge.
• Ensure compliance, retention, and client-imposed restrictions in KM initiatives.
• Lead prioritization to connect KM assets to AI platforms and retrieval layers.
• Drive adoption of KM resources with practice groups and measure outcomes.
• Hire, develop, and manage a growing KM team across the function.
