Job summary

Covington & Burling LLP is seeking a Director of KM and Practice Technology to lead a cross‑practice team in transforming KM into strategic infrastructure. You will drive governance, standards, and scalable technology deployments across Corporate, Litigation, Regulatory, and White Collar practices, partnering with AI teams to ensure AI readiness.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of transferable professional experience in KM, legal technology, or related roles within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Proven track record designing, deploying, and scaling KM or workflow solutions with measurable adoption and impact.
  • Strong understanding of organizing legal workflows, taxonomy, matter intelligence, and practice data to support AI-enabled work.
  • Demonstrated initiative, bias for action, and ability to drive outcomes to delivery.
  • Curiosity about KM, legal tech, AI, and law firm innovation with a history of introducing new ideas to leadership.
  • Ability to anchor projects to clear business, practice, or client-service outcomes and drive adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop KM and Practice Technology team across practice areas with high-performance culture.
  • Define and maintain firmwide KM and practice tech standards including taxonomies, metadata, and AI-ready knowledge assets.
  • Partner with practice groups to identify and sequence KM opportunities to improve matter execution and client service.
  • Oversee design, deployment, adoption, and maintenance of KM tools like precedent libraries and matter intelligence repositories.
  • Ensure KM resources are actively operationalized within legal workflows across drafting, diligence, and regulatory analysis.
  • Collaborate with AI teams to ensure knowledge content supports AI workflows and data readiness.
  • Establish governance for knowledge assets covering creation, review, maintenance, and access control.
  • Identify and translate KM needs into scalable automation solutions with internal stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on KM, legal tech, AI, information architecture, and firm innovation for scalable solutions.
  • Drive adoption through training, demos, and engagement with practice leadership and internal teams.
  • Report adoption, quality, coverage, and value metrics to senior leadership.
