Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for our Transmission Design Engineering team in Del Mar, CA. This hybrid role focuses on overhead transmission structure design and analysis in the 69kV–500kV range.

You will develop drawings, calculations, and models, using PLS-CADD and related tools, with occasional MATHCAD/RISA usage. EIT or ability to obtain within a year is required; travel up to 5% and a valid driver’s license are needed.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Strong foundation in statics, structural analysis, steel and concrete design.
• 0–2 years Civil/Structural engineering experience, preferably in electric transmission line design.
• MS Office; exposure to PLS-CADD or AutoCAD is a plus.
• Hybrid work setting and ability to travel up to 5% with valid driver's license.
• EIT or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze overhead transmission structures in 69kV–500kV range.
• Develop and review drawings and calculations for steel poles, lattices, and foundations.
• Create and review transmission line models in PLS-CADD for structure loading.
• Operate PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and MFAD daily.
• Occasionally use MathCAD, RISA 3D, Enercalc, tnxTower.
• Review vendor submittals for steel, concrete, and micropiles.
• Analyze foundations and connections for transmission equipment.
• Follow QA/QC and apply sound project management practices.
