Job summary

CDM Smith in Newark, NJ is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to design automation systems, develop P&IDs and control architectures, and mentor junior staff. You’ll contribute to 3D/4D design efforts and assist in tests and startup activities.

Travel 20–40% may be required. Strong PLC/HMI knowledge, excellent communication, and a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years related experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 5 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Responsibilities

• Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices.
• Reviews basic to highly complex component level shop drawings, contractor clarifications. Assist with testing oversight.
• Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control system designs by developing P&IDs, control system architectures, specifications, and control descriptions (for use in control system programming).
• Leads staff and provides direction and mentoring for junior staff. Reviews the work of junior staff as necessary.
• Under general supervision, assists in the preparation proposal sections and presentations, as directed. Supports marketing and new business activities as requested in support the Automation strategy. May participate in proposals.
• Performs other duties as required.
